SPEAK OUT

  • THE TABERNACLE TRUST The Tabernacle 34-35, Powis Square LONDON United Kingdom (map)

Political speech is dead! Long live political speech!

Speech making may be dead at Westminster, but in communities, schools, prisons and clubs across the UK it’s alive and kicking.

At The Tabernacle in London, we’re bringing together speechwriters, activists, academics and the voices of our nation to explore speech making's ability to provoke, persuade and empower.

Experience extraordinary speeches created by participants across England, alongside a conversation with Philip Collins, former chief speechwriter to Tony Blair in 10 Downing Street, contributing editor to The New Statesman, and writer in chief at The Draft. He will be joined by Shareefa Energy, poet and activist featured on BBC, Channel 4 and ITV.

Speak Out is part of a series of events in London and at HOME, Manchester this November, and the culmination of "Speech Speech!", a year of AHRC funded workshops with University of Birmingham and University of East Anglia. Dash Arts will continue to be inspired by the speeches written by our national participants, with a new, state-of-the-nation theatre production in development from Writer Jude Christian and Director Josephine Burton.

Funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), Arts Council England, Three Monkies Trust, individual giving and with support from HOME Manchester.
