The Ballet School

The Ballet School Notting Hill began in 2002 with just four pupils, taught in the playroom of a house on Westbourne Park Road. More than two decades on, it is a thriving mecca for budding ballerinas from the Notting Hill area and beyond.

The school was born from founder Claire McNicholl’s search for a teacher for her ballet-mad two-year-old. Introduced to Vanessa through a mutual friend, a couple of classes — and a huge amount of lattes — later, The Ballet School Notting Hill (and a great friendship) was formed.

The school offers classical ballet tuition for children aged two and a half and up. We aim to give every child the opportunity to develop self-confidence, poise, coordination and musicality in a fun, creative yet highly professional environment. All teachers are DBS-checked, fully qualified professionals, and every class is accompanied by a pianist.

Our main objective is to provide children with a magical introduction to ballet, placing creativity and enjoyment at the heart of their experience. At the same time, pupils who show the desire to pursue ballet professionally are fully supported with expert tuition and guidance.

Many of our pupils have gone on to train at top vocational schools, including The Royal Ballet School, Tring Park, Arts Educational and Elmhurst. Others have performed with internationally renowned ballet companies such as The Royal Ballet, Bolshoi Ballet, English National Ballet, Birmingham Royal Ballet and The Australian Ballet, and have been accepted onto numerous highly selective Associate programmes.

Students are given regular performance opportunities through our biennial productions and are entered annually for examinations and assessments with both The Royal Ballet School and the Royal Academy of Dance.
